ASU-Beebe Lecture-Concert Series is delighted to announce a lecture featuring esteemed NASA Solar Scientist Mitzi Adams from the Marshall Space Flight Center. The event will take place on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 10 a.m. in the Owen Center Theatre on the Beebe campus. Adams will deliver an engaging presentation on The Sun, Space, Weather and Eclipses, providing an extraordinary opportunity for students, faculty, and the public to delve into the captivating realm of solar astronomy.

Mitzi Adams, a distinguished solar scientist, brings a wealth of expertise from her work at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, where she focuses on the study of the Sun's magnetic fields and their impact on the solar atmosphere, particularly the corona. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Adams holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physics, with a minor in mathematics, from Georgia State University. She further pursued her passion for solar astronomy and earned a Master of Science degree in physics from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Adams' dedication to her field and her curiosity about the stars was ignited during her childhood, when she spent family holidays gazing at the night sky and asking questions about the stars. An encounter with Commander Edgar D. Mitchell, the sixth man to walk on the Moon, inspired her to follow her dreams in the realm of astronomy and space exploration.

With a professional interest in sunspot magnetic fields and coronal bright points, friends have labelled her a “solar dermatologist.” Research plays a crucial role in understanding solar flares and "coronal mass ejections," colossal eruptions of solar material that can impact Earth's auroras, communication systems, and power grids.

Beyond her scientific endeavors, Adams is an intrepid explorer with a passion for adventure. She regularly explores caves in the North Alabama area and delves into the underwater world of cave diving, a daring yet captivating activity. Adams also finds joy in exploring various countries, including Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Romania, Zambia, Peru, and Mexico.

With a profound interest in educational outreach, Adams actively participates in events like viewing solar eclipses and transits of Mercury and Venus, inspiring and engaging with people about the wonders of space exploration.

Join us for this remarkable event as Mitzi Adams shares her expertise, experiences, and insights into the fascinating world of the Sun, Space, Weather and Eclipses.
